The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission recently released a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) recommending the relicensing of Conowingo Dam, stating that they consider it “premature to conclude that dredging Conowingo Pond would be an environmentally acceptable solution.” Maintaining the health of the Chesapeake Bay will require a regional approach that includes all of us doing our part. We look forward to similar studies going forward which will help clarify the dam’s role in protecting the Bay.
